Motivation
What motivates you to do what you're doing? Is it the money or reward that you will be awarded? Or, do you motivate yourself because you really enjoy doing the sport, game, job, or anything else you might be doing?
Most people get motivated to do something because they want to receive the money, reward, fame, because that's what they think is best for them. However, through the video we watched today we learned the surprising truth of what motivates us.
In the video, students were tested to do challenges and were rewarded with 3 different kinds of rewards. Challenges that were done mechanically, the students showed their best performance and took the best rewards. However, when the students had to use rudimentary cognitive skills which is skills that uses the brain; they all showed such poor performance that even though the reward got bigger they couldn't complete it. This was tested in different areas where there was more poverty and more money needed. Still, the results didn't change and the people showed very poor performance. This theory or test shows us that motivation does not come from how much the reward or the money you get. Instead, it tells us that you motivate yourself and do well when you do a task that you really enjoy to do.
A very good example of motivation would be Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela only did what he desired to do. Mandela didn't care at all about rewards or money. He just motivated himself to do what he enjoyed even though the task made him end up in the jail. When he came out of jail he still didn't stop and consisted on the job to make South Africa a better country. We can learn and be inspired by Nelson Mandela.
I also think that I motivate myself to play soccer. At this age you wouldn't get paid to play soccer. Instead, people usually pay to play soccer. I don't think that I would pay to play soccer if I didn't any attention or love for soccer. However, to me soccer is something that motivates me.
In brief, I think this is another good example that money shouldn't motivate you. Instead, people should motivate themselves by doing what they really desire or enjoy to do.
