Nelson Mandala Nelson (Rolihlahla) Mandela was born on July 18 1918. He was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, philanthropist who was the president of South Africa from 1994 until 1999. He was born in an royal family and studied law in university. While working as a lawyer he was arrested many times for his connections with anti-colonial politics. In 1962 he was arrested of conscript to overthrow the apartheid government in South Africa. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. He served 27 years in prison on Robben Island, Polls Moor prison, and Victor Vestor prison. Finally he was released in 1990 after an international campaign fought for his release.
After his release he joined negotiations with the president at the time to get rid of the apartheid government and establish multi racial elections in 1994. He won the elections and became South Africans first black president. He spent the rest of his life fighting for human rights amongst all people, fighting poverty, and hiv/aids and countless other deeds in which he received more than 250 honors for.
